President Obama nominates Matsuda for maritime administrator

President Obama has tapped David Matsuda, currently the acting administrator of MARAD, for the position of maritime administrator.

“I am grateful that such talented individuals have joined my administration at this important moment in our nation’s history. I look forward to working with them in the coming months and years,” President Obama said in an announcement of various nominations, including Matsuda’s.

Matsuda joined the Maritime Administration in July as deputy administrator and acting administrator. He has more than a decade of experience in federal transportation policy, programs and oversight. For seven years, he served as senior counsel and primary transportation advisor to Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ), who is the chairman of the Surface Transportation and Merchant Marine Subcommittee.

Matsuda’s confirmation hearing before the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee is scheduled for Dec. 15.
