MSCI Alert 2020-006 - Persian Gulf, Strait of Hormuz, Gulf of Oman, Arabian Sea, Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, and Indian Ocean - threat to commercial vessels from Iran and its proxies

Description: In July and August 2020, the United States took action pursuant to a United States federal warrant and forfeiture complaint, consistent with its sanctions policy against shipments of Iranian petroleum, petroleum products, or petrochemical products. These actions were based on evidence connecting the cargo to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), a designated terrorist organization that has targeted the United States and our allies (see https://go.usa.gov/xfFCt and https://go.usa.gov/xfFWx). The Iranian response, if any, is unknown; however, there remains the possibility of Iranian action against U.S. maritime interests and commercial vessels in the region. U.S. commercial vessels operating in this area should review U.S. Maritime Advisory 2020-011. This Alert will automatically expire on August 21, 2020.
