New jobs for AMO as APL Cyprine begins U.S.-flag service

On Monday, May 3, the containership M/V APL Cyprine was re-flagged into U.S. registry. The APL Cyprine is one of two ships that will be re-flagged and operated by APL Maritime Limited and manned in all licensed positions by American Maritime Officers.

The Cyprine will carry military, government and commercial cargo on a 56-day route down the Eastern seaboard to Dubai, Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Oman, before returning to New York. On Monday, most of the crew received their orientation and walked through the ship. The captain, chief mate, chief engineer and first assistant engineer had been onboard 14 days to gain further observation time onboard their new vessel.

The senior officers spent Monday giving the ship a thorough inspection and testing engine systems. The Cyprine will set off this week on her first voyage under the American flag.

The 900-foot 5,000 TEU Cyprine is the first new class of ship to be brought into the APL Maritime Limited fleet since 1997. The M/V APL Pearl is scheduled to be re-flagged in early June.
