Amendments to AMO National Constitution approved

The following two amendments to the American Maritime Officers National Constitution were approved by a majority vote of the AMO National Executive Board in January and were approved by a majority vote of AMO members attending the regular monthly membership meeting at AMO National Headquarters on January 5, 2015. The complete text of the AMO National Constitution containing these amendments will be distributed with the February 2015 edition of American Maritime Officer.

Article IX, Section 3 has been amended as follows:

Previous language: All other classifications of employees shall be hired, discharged and compensated at the discretion of the National President.

Amended: All other classifications of employees shall be hired, discharged and compensated as recommended by the National President and approved by the National Executive Board.

Article IX, Section 4 has been amended as follows:

Previous language: Unless otherwise ordered by a majority vote of the membership, the National President may contract for, or retain, the services of any person, firm or corporation, not employees of this Union, when he deems it necessary and in the best interest of this Union.

Amended: Unless modified by a majority vote of the Union Membership, the National President, with approval of the National Executive Board, may contract for, or retain, the services of any person, firm or corporation, not employees of this Union, when it is deemed in the best interest of this Union.
