Connaughton to be nominated for FMC post

The White House announced the President will nominate Maritime Administrator Sean Connaughton for the position of Commissioner of the Federal Maritime Commission, and that the administration intends to designate him chairman of the FMC upon his appointment for the five-year term ending June 30, 2012.

Connaughton took office as maritime administrator in September 2006. Since then, he has, among other things, facilitated employment of American mariners in the LNG shipping trades, effectively advanced the Marine Highway Initiative for expanded domestic short sea shipping operations and ably managed key U.S.-flag fleet programs, including the Maritime Security Program.
