Congressman Dicks to be honored for strong support of U.S. maritime industry

The International Propeller Club of the United States has selected Congressman Norm Dicks (D-WA) to receive the 2012 Salute to Congress Award for his strong and consistent record of support for the U.S.-flag maritime industry.

Rep. Dicks serves as the ranking Democrat on the powerful House Appropriations Committee. Among his other committee positions, Rep. Dicks is the ranking member of the House Defense Appropriations Subcommittee.

Throughout his career in Congress, Rep. Dicks has taken a leading role in supporting key elements of U.S. maritime policy, including the Jones Act and Maritime Security Program, and in affirming the important roles of the U.S. merchant fleet in national security, defense and commerce.

Rep. Dicks was first elected to Congress in 1976 representing Washington's 6th District and has been re-elected in every contest since.

Representatives of maritime labor and industry, the military and members of Congress and their staffs will attend the awards dinner May 8 to honor Rep. Dicks.
