AMO ocean ranger jobs secure as Alaska awards contract to Crowley

The State of Alaska recently awarded a contract to Crowley Maritime Corporation to continue administering the state's Ocean Ranger Program, effective November 2011. American Maritime Officers members have served as ocean rangers in the program since its inception.

"AMO officers have established an excellent record sailing as ocean rangers in this important environmental program for the State of Alaska," said AMO National Executive Vice President Bob Kiefer. "We're very pleased AMO ocean rangers will continue to have the opportunity to serve in this key capacity under the new contract awarded to Crowley. We look forward to the ongoing success of the state's Ocean Ranger Program and AMO's continued contribution to environmental stewardship."

Ocean rangers sail aboard cruise ships while they are in Alaskan waters and monitor shipboard operations involving safety, security and environmental protection.

"We are very pleased to continue working with ADEC to help protect Alaska's pristine waterways," said Crowley's Todd Busch, senior vice president and general manager of technical services. "Managing the Ocean Ranger program for ADEC is very relevant for us as it is in alignment with Crowley's corporate values as they relate to environmental stewardship. We take pride in continuing this important work to protect the people and environment of Alaska."
